YMMV / The Simpsons S2 E11: "One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish"

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: When he believes he is dying, Homer tells Mr. Burns to Take This Job and Shove It, and a deleted scene would have shown Homer having to go back to work and apologize to Mr. Burns when he hadn't died. Season 6's "And Maggie Makes Three" would show Homer having to do the same things when Maggie was born.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Even when the episode first came out, fans doubted that Homer, one of the most iconic cartoon protagonists of the late 80s/early 90s, would actually die halfway through the season. Sure enough, he's still alive by the end.
  • Tear Dryer: Homer believes he has 24 hours to live after eating a bad blowfish, and near the end, he seems to pass away in the middle of the night. Marge is devastated...but then she notices his drool is warm, which means he's alive.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The first recorded instance of Americans getting poisoned by fugu occurred shortly after the episode. The victims survived thanks to getting put on life support and being treated on time. Here, Hibbert refuses to even trace the poison, not realizing Homer is perfectly fine.
