  • Harsher in Hindsight: Alan Moore’s rant about the commercialization of his work seems rather prescient as it’s only gotten worse with the Watchmen sequels, prequels, and adaptations that have been made since the episode aired. All of which Moore has gone on record saying he loathed. The Watchmen Babies joke is especially becoming prophetic as Geoff Johns has been responsible for creating three legacy characters of the Watchmen cast in his works (a second Rorschach, a child with Doctor Manhattan's powers, and a follower of Ozymandias).
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Alan Moore gets angry about a Watchmen spinoff called Watchmen Babies, which was apparently produced by DC Comics without his involvement. Starting in 2011, DC actually did bring back the cast of Watchmen for several stories done without Moore's involvement or permission. And in 2019, they released a literal Spinoff Babies version of Swamp Thing (which Moore made famous) called Swamp Kid.
  • Memetic Mutation: The scene where Homer shows off his newly lost body fat, only for the reveal that he is hiding the loose skin left over from the surgery by stapling it to his back, is used commonly online to show an attempt from someone or something to hide their true self from others.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The first act challenges Comic Book Guy's status as the only game in town when a cooler comic shop, run by a much nicer guy, opens in the neighborhood and all the kids switch their allegiance so unanimously that he's forced to shut down the Android's Dungeon. Not only is this just the opener for a Halfway Plot Switch into a typical marital conflict between Homer and Marge, but we never find out how Comic Book Guy gets his store back and wins back his customers, especially since Milo becomes a recurring background character later on.
