YMMV / The Simpsons S10 E8 - "Homer Simpson in: "Kidney Trouble""

Go To

  • Designated Hero: While it doesn't justify Homer's behaviour, Dr Hibbert is conveyed as a Dr Nick-level untrustworthy quack throughout the episode, lying to Homer about the severity of the operation and then, when he doesn't donate willingly, just butchering him for his kidney while he is unconscious. The family go through with these immoral methods for the sake of Grandpa, meaning Hibbert gets off scot free.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: One of the most commonly disregarded episodes in the series, as a result of pushing Homer's disregard for his father to downright sociopathic and meanspirited levels.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In this episode, an outraged Bart says that he wouldn't let his father die, and he's "America's Bad Boy". Fast-forward to the episode "Love is a Many-Strangled Thing" and his reaction at Homer dangling from a noose and suffocating (during a trust exercise Gone Horribly Wrong, long story) is to completely ignore it and try to walk away, which outrages the therapist who issued the trust exercise so much that he attacks Bart.
