YMMV / The Revenge of Shinobi

Go To

  • Awesome Music: "Terrible Beat" and the hauntingly beautiful "My Lover".
  • Demonic Spiders: The grenade-throwing grunts; they are frighteningly accurate while their grenades detonate on contact with either you or the ground and their explosions are harmful throughout the entire animation, not just the initial detonation, so they do a lot of damage even when the fireball has almost dispersed.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One of the Terminator/Hulk boss' attacks is charging forward with a crescent-like energy covering him. That would look a lot like Hulk's Gamma Charge attack.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Literally! Many players only hear of this game and come try it just because it features random pop culture icons such as Godzilla himself, the Terminator, Batman... and most especially, Spider-Man!
  • Signature Song: "Terrible Beat" and "Chinatown"
  • That One Level:
    • Round 7-1: Breakwater. Besides lots and lots of red Omote enemies trying to knock you into the sea with their shuriken, there is an incredibly long jump near the end of the stage that requires pixel-perfect precision, even with the Fushin Ninjitsu, and failing it costs you a life and sends you back to the start of the level.
    • Round 8-2: The Cellar Maze. Without a map, it is so easy to get lost and wind up going around in circles, or have an enemy knock you into a door that you don't want to take.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The original version of the game with all the copyright-violating references is valued the most by players. Modern editions of the game also replace Sonny Chiba on the title screen with a much less intimidating man (Tsuyoshi Matsuoka) and likewise ruin the mood of the Spider-Man fight by recoloring him bright pink.
