• Alternate Character Interpretation: The inspector who examines Douglas' forged shipping orders: was he really taken in, or was he fully aware the papers were faked and decided to help them along, same as those before him?
• Fridge Horror: Fridge Tearjerker, actually. Gordon's reaction to the scrapping of most of his siblings is the only one explored in the book, so the reactions of the other engines to the scrapping of their own siblings is open to interpretation. For all we know, however, many of them would be most likely as devastated as Gordon, especially those engines who lost all their siblings to the scrapper's torch, including Thomas, Edward, and Toby. Poor guys.
• Nausea Fuel: Boiler sludge in "Tenders for Henry." The engines find it vulgar to talk about. Those who have seen the stuff in real life know why; It's that stuff that builds up in the tubes of boilers. In-Universe, it’s apparently the locomotive equivalent of human waste. That's right; the Rev. W. Awdry used Toilet Humour here!
