YMMV / The Owl House S2E20 "Clouds on the Horizon"

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The strange rat that eats a snack at Alador's workshop looks bizarrely similar to him. It even has his hair, eyes, and goggles. Many viewers were initially left with the horrifying impression that Odalia somehow turned her husband into a rat, but Alador appears in the next scene just fine with absolutely no implication he'd gone through a Forced Transformation. The rat is never brought up after that scene either, leaving viewers confused about what it was supposed to mean. A common theory is that it was Alador's palisman but nothing is confirmed. It's also possible that it may be an Orphaned Reference to a plot that was cut for time when the series was shortened.
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • Several people who despise Kikimora were delighted to learn that she has been demoted and is a frustrated delivery girl now.
    • Everything about Alador standing up to Odalia, destroying the Abomatrons and putting her in her place, considering that she doesn't give a damn about what's going to happen when the Day of Unity arrives.
Alador: This is too much. Even for you.
    • Amity being so disgusted by her callous and abusive mother that she disowns her.
    • After gaining a paranoid obsession with Hunter and having tried to assassinate him twice, it's fun to watch Kikimora get yelled at by Luz to just leave the boy alone.
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • What's Luz's Palisman egg going to hatch into? And when will it happen?
    • How did Belos and Kikimora learn about the C.A.T.s' plan to sabotage the draining spell? Is there a mole in the ranks? Is someone watching them? And what kind of trap does await them?
    • It is revealed that Odalia and Kikimora knew about the draining spell all along and approve of The Purge (while believing that they would be spared and rewarded). Who else is part of this conspiracy? Terra Snapdragon? Adrian Graye? The other Coven Heads?
  • I Knew It!:
    • A popular fan theory for Odalia was that her opposition to Amity's relationship with Luz wouldn't be because Luz is another girl, but because Luz is a wanted criminal. This episode confirms that with Odalia's reaction to hearing that Amity and Luz are dating. Once Odalia hears that, she tells Amity they would find her a new girlfriend, "someone who's not on wanted posters everywhere." The fact that they're both girls never enters into it, thus confirming that Odalia's opposition was not based on homophobia.
    • Many theorized Belos was personally responsible for killing the person Hunter is based on. This episode confirms that Belos did indeed murder them.
    • People were expecting the effect Eda's curse had on magic to come up again in the final episodes, since it only appeared in one episode and was never touched on again.
    • On a more humorous note, many fans theorized that Amity's angry face runs in the family. This episode confirms that theory to be correct, in which it's her father that she gets it from.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • The "Divorce Selfie" meme has been used graciously after the falling-out between Alador and Odalia.
    • Odalia's not being bothered by Amity's sexuality and preference for girls has become wildly memetic due to her support of racially motivated mass-murder but not homophobia. Common memes that have spawned for this include "I draw the line at X" and "Professionals have standards".
  • Moral Event Horizon: We learn that Odalia already crossed it, as she has been aiding the Day of Unity while fully knowing what it entails, that being effectively genocide of her own people!
