* EnsembleDarkHorse: Amelia only gets four or five scenes with dialogue and is never the smartest or most likable person in the room. Nonetheless, she is considered a compelling and integral part of the movie for her status as a mysterious ActionSurvivor who wears a striking yellow dress and ultimately turns out to be hilariously kooky and self-righteous (albeit still making valid points).

Has Two Mommies is now a disambig. Dewicking

* HoYay: Much like ''Film/KissKissBangBang''. March and Healy have a buddy-cop dynamic that's been popular among slash fans for a ''very'' long time. (At least since the 70s!) In addition, Healy's growing investment in their partnership is paralleled by a growing attachment to his partner's daughter, resulting in [[FanNickname a lot of casual fandom references to]] [[HasTwoMommies Holly's two dads.]]

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Did Amelia run away from Holland's just because she was scared for her life, or because she didn't want ''more'' people dying after they got close to her?

[[spoiler:Probably the former, as her last words to Holly was to pass along an insult to Healy, after which she instantly flagged down the first car she saw and begged him for a ride. That driver was John Boy, so it worked out rather poorly.]]

Per Hindsight cleanup thread Common NOT in Hindsight examples "Two actors appear together then do so in another work"

* HilariousInHindsight:
** Creator/RyanGosling's character Holland March keeps comparing people to Nazis and following protocol to Hitler on multiple occasions. Ironically, early in their careers, both stars Gosling and Creator/RussellCrowe had played Neo-Nazis (Gosling played a Jewish BoomerangBigot in ''Film/TheBeliever'', while Crowe played one in his native Australia in ''Film/RomperStomper'').
** Creator/RussellCrowe and Creator/KimBasinger are reunited once again in a crime movie set in Los Angeles after ''Film/LAConfidential''.

While Holly is indeed popular, she’s one of the main characters and therefore doesn’t count for that trope. I’ve transferred and altered the writing though so that the initial point can still stand

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Angourie Rice as Holly was considered one of the movies highlights, which is saying a lot considering you have Creator/RyanGosling and Creator/RussellCrowe.

* ShockingMoments: After so much of the film has been devoted to [[spoiler: finding Amelia]] it's truly startling to see [[spoiler: her unceremoniously gunned down.]]

Intentional in-story ones should be listed as the Cerebus Call Back trope on the works page. The first harsher example doesn't even qualify as that.

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: March's antics earlier in the film, once you realise the severity of his drinking problem.
** The scene where Chet takes them to what's left of Dean's house for apparently no reason other than the drama, and Holland spends the entire time chewing him out for it, is a lot less funny when you know how his wife died. No wonder he gets pissy.
** Similarly, Holland gets quietly offended when Healy snarks at his being unable to smell, and it's PlayedForLaughs. This is before we find out that he blames himself for the fire that killed his wife, because he couldn't smell the leak.

* HarsherInHindsight:
** Holly reading by flashlight in an empty lot at first underscores what an independent kid she is despite Healy's instinct to protect her. Later, it becomes clear that her relative self-sufficiency is a consequence of her sole surviving parent being [[AlcoholicParent a drunken wreck]]... and the open field she was reading in used to be ''their house'' before it burned to the ground.
** Healy punching out a man for preying on underage girls became a lot darker when it was revealed Shane Black was friends with a registered sex offender he provided acting work for, including this film.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Music/JohnOttman and David Buckley's score has a ton of highlights that perfectly match the film's energetic tone, including the [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l1RKUUIn7kg main theme]] and "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcexbbSGgd8 Disco Party Fight]]".
