YMMV / The Magic Riddle

• Ass Pull: Eartha learns Cindy is hiding at her grandmother's house after overhearing her mother come to that realization. Eartha seems to be forgetting she's the one who told Cindy about her grandmother's house, and to go there, in the first place!
• Jerkass Woobie: Downplayed and more subtle with The Widow. Though the Widow is obviously the wicked stepmother trope and is an unlikable villain, she wants the will because she wants to still live a stable life with her daughters. Once the will is given to Cindy, she basically states that her daughters and herself will move into a life of poverty and hardship, making survival more difficult. So she does have some sort of understandable motive.
• Narm:
  • If Cindy's "I Want" Song would be sung by a far less beautiful girl, it could be a heartwrenching Tear Jerker. But it's hard to take this scene seriously, when a girl like Cindy complains about being an "ugly duckling."
  • It's impossible to listen to this verse of Phillippe's song: "Where did she come from, where did she go?" without expecting him to start singing about Cotton Eye Joe.
• The Woobie: There might need to be a checklist for ALL of the times and ALL of the features that make Cindy the ultimate fairytale woobie.
