YMMV / The Legend of Dwayne and Lisa

Go To

  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Or character arc in this case. Cynder is shown to be very harsh in her training of Lisa, to the point she went overboard and injures them both in their training session. Cynder even let her fight in the final battle despite the fact she is only twelve and had, at most, a few lessons in her elemental magic and one session of combat training the day prior. She insists to Blaze, Lisa's father, that Lisa would be fine but then Lisa gets ambushed by a husk and nearly dies. Although she did fine against a few mages on her own and got healed after the wound, Cynder at no point reflects on this or realizes how her actions nearly got a kid killed nor how reckless and overly harsh she was in training. Granted, by the time this happens, it is the end of the story anyway so there may not have been enough time to weave this into the plot.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Cynder's decision to let Lisa fight in the battle of Warfang. Though Lisa wanted to help, she was still only a 12-year-old kid who, at that point in time, had just barely learned how to fight. When Blaze calls her on this, Cynder is dismissive of that accusation, insisting Lisa will be fine. Though Lisa took out a few enemies on her own, she still gets ambushed shortly after that and nearly dies, suffering a grievous wound in the process. Cynder's decision to let her enter battle, and by extension the other character's decisions to sneak Lisa out to fight the Sorceress, come across as reckless and irresponsible as a result, seeing as how Lisa was still realistically unprepared to be in such a large battle (having only a few elemental and combat training sessions prior) and nearly got killed in said battle.
