- Anvilicious: Largely thanks to the narrator, the New Media Are Evil message comes across as subtly as a brick to the face. Of course, since he's THE KILLER, you're probably not supposed to believe him.
- Ass Pull: What many viewers and reviewers think of the twist ending that reveals the killer's true identity.
- Complete Monster: Director David Leigh is the real murderer of the documentary crew. Having sneaked into the woods after them, Leigh brutally slaughtered the crew and framed the last member, Jim Suerd, resulting in Suerd's conviction and eventual death. Upon being uncovered by film expert Michelle "Shelly" Monarch, Leigh murders Monarch and proceeds to plot a new "movie" with more bodies.
- Unintentional Period Piece: The protagonists' TV show Fact or Fiction is an artifact of the public access boom of the '90s, as is the fact that they use IRC to simulcast their show over the internet.
