YMMV / The Grey Rainbow

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The lovely music of Kevin MacLeod is used to great effect here, setting the wonderment and sadness for each and every scene.
  • Tear Jerker: Most of the game is one.
    • The very fact that the main reality and the "dream" are being taken over by a grayness that is stripping the lands of their magic, which in turn creates a rather melancholy world.
    • Early on in the game, you have to trap a rat that's been stealing food from the hares living by the tree so that it gets carried off by a hawk. Later on, when you try to tell the Lady of the Mountain how horrified you are at the idea of trapping a phoenix, she'll tell you that the rat was stealing that food to feed its own family, and when it died, its family followed shortly after.
    • The old man's sad story about how he abandoned the love of his life to go out on an adventure, only for her to not be there when he came back. He later finds her again, and finds out that she found another man and started a family before she died.
    • Even if you're aware of the lore behind the phoenix, it's still heartbreaking to see the detective become so devastated when the Lady of the Mountain kills it, to the point where he leaves and doesn't come back for 6 months.
