• Accidental Innuendo: The "Soft Ones" become "Hard Ones" when they have sex. While it's not clear if this even was accidental on Asimov's part, if it wasn't then it would mean that the entire novel was just the setup for a dick joke that flew under the radar, which to be honest sounds more like something Terry Pratchett would do.
• Harsher in Hindsight: In the paraverse, there is apparently a backlash against artificial food with urban legends very much like the ones told today about genetically modified food.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: A mutually beneficial promise of paradise on Earth. In reality, it's a plan by a super-advanced Dying Race with procreation problems to save itself at the expense of countless human lives. An Eldar plan through and through.
• Genius Bonus: Possibly not meant as one, but Rational, Emotional and Parental closely resembles Anatomy of the Soul as described by Plato: reason, emotion/courage and biological impulses/appetites.
