YMMV / The God in the Bowl

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: The "god" only makes a full appearance on the last page, before getting decapitated in a single stroke by Conan. Possibly justified in that it's impossible to tell just how powerful it is (it could be a Physical God, a very alien mortal, or anything in between), and anyway, the story is more of a Locked Room Mystery than a monster-fighting story.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Demetrio the inquisitor tends to be popular with readers for being an intelligent Reasonable Authority Figure, and one of the few Conan antagonists to be an Anti-Villain, if not a full-on Hero Antagonist.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Conan gets pretty brutal during his breakout at the end, killing or maiming the policemen, many of whom were Punch Clock Villains at worst, but then, they were holding him captive and accusing him of a murder he didn't commit. However, it's hard to sympathise with him kicking in the teeth of Arus the watchman, whose only crime was finding the body of Kallian Publico and alerting the police, especially since Arus had plenty of reason to believe that Conan was the murderer and that he himself was next.
