YMMV / The Flop House

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Despite only showing up for brief moments at a time, listeners tend to love the Flop House housecat. A lot of it has to do with how uncharacteristically vocal it forces Stuart to become (he elicits a hilarious sound that is a mix of a "meow" and roar when voicing the creature), and with how excited Elliott gets whenever the sound is made.
    • Hallie Haglund has proven to be exceptionally popular since her initial guest spots on the show, with many fans finding her earnest excitement and cheery demeanor to be endlessly endearing. Her time as Elliott's replacement while he was on paternity leave was greeted positively by the fans. There's a reason she (and others) refer to her as "star of the show Hallie Haglund" and it's barely a lie.
  • Growing the Beard: The series doesn't begin to approach its heights until Elliott Kalan became a regular participant—-his knack for funny summarising moved the show along much faster, and his combination of hyper-intellectual with kid-on-the-playground-with-too-much-sugar turned Dan into a beautifully exasperated foil and emphasised Stuart's laconic nerd's-idea-of-a-cool-dude.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Early episodes with Dan talking about his wife can be tough to listen to knowing that they separate years down the line. One episode sees Stu suggest something akin to a Fallback Marriage Pact for the Original Peaches, which Dan shoots down by pointing out that they're all married.
