YMMV / The Flash 2014 S 3 E 19 The Once And Future Flash

  • Fan Nickname: Emo Barry for the Future Barry, due to his haircut.
  • Fridge Horror: Future Barry gets a visit from his past self in February 2024 and, by the end of the episode, appears to be willing to get back on his horse and fight the good fight. But we know from past episodes that he vanishes in April 2024 during the Red Skies crisis. Has Barry unwittingly just put himself back into the fight only to doom himself?
  • Narm: Grant Gustin's wig as Future Barry looked really ridiculous for a number of fans. More than a few point out that it makes him look more like an Emo Teen than a man that has fallen into complete despair after the death of the love of his life. He looks similar to Peter Parker's infamous look in the darker parts of Spider-Man 3, which itself was a case of high grade Narm. It doesn't help that this is a Barry Allen that's meant to be Barry seven years in the future, but the wig instead makes him look younger (much like how Oliver wears a wig like that when the show wants to show flashbacks to his younger years), completely inverting the intended effect. Generally one expects their brooding future self to look like a grizzled vet, not a pretty boy type.
  • Narm Charm: Cisco telling Barry that he's his BFF could have come off as cheesy, but Carlos Valdes sells it perfectly.
  • Wangst: While understandable, Future Barry's grief still blew out of proportions. It doesn't help that present day Barry essentially lampshaded the trope In-Universe.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: Grant Gustin's wig as Future Barry causes Narm (see above) for a number of fans. Fortunately, his actual Flash suit, which is Truer to the Text, has won just about everyone over.
