The manga:

  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Schala. It's understandable she'd be upset that her friend died, but she takes it out on the girls.
    • Mrs. Skeener is revealed to have been one given what happened.
  • Narm:
    • Jeanie in the Seance party looks like she's practically eating the mirror.
    • Gabriella, one of the few students, approaches Ms. Anu, Jeanie, and Amber because her friend got locked out of a dorm room... and didn't even seem to notice that Jeanie and Ms. Anu were carrying a sledge hammer and a crowbar until a bit later. May be slightly justified by it being a blackout but the fact she noticed it a few pages later makes her seem severely inattentive.
  • Narm Charm: The creepy painting in front of the sealed room is actually kind of funny without context. But the context behind it only makes it worse...
  • Nightmare Fuel: Plenty. It is a horror manga after all...
    • The girl who brings up the mirror dare just looks... OFF.
    • The disturbing paintings placed throughout Greenwich Private College all depict scenes of Victorian women doing quaint things like drinking tea or walking through the woods, but the background of every painting has the same faceless girl spying from behind a tree or through a window. And one of the paintings features three insane girls brandishing kitchen knives and chasing after another terrified one. These were all painted by Mrs. Skeener's sister Mary, and the painting with the crazy girls was supposed to feature the two being chased together. These were all dreams Mary was having whilst at the boarding school, and she painted them to get them out of her head so that she wouldn't go insane.
      • And there's the one portrait of the manic-eyed girl who is the orphan girl Avril Merriweather and the girls in the founding class tortured on a regular basis, until she allowed her soul to be eaten by a quinkan so she could get revenge.
    • Avril Merriweather, the founder of Greenwich Private College back when it was still an all girls school, was originally a governess in England who punished her charges by locking them in closets and wardrobes until one of her girls went insane and bit off her own tongue. She fled to Australia to escape her ruined reputation and built her school away from prying eyes, but her depraved nature only got worse. She modified her closet punishment by locking girls inside a coffin with carefully concealed air holes so they wouldn't suffocate. They'd just think they were going to.
    • It's implied that poor Amber is permanently possessed by Mary Spector, and this is the reason Jeanie severs ties with her!
  • The Woobie: You'll never guess who: Mrs. Skeener, when her back-story is revealed. Helps that she looks far prettier in her younger days.

The Kate Bush album:

  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: While still not a commercial success, the album fared much better with critics in America than in the U.K., and actually made the charts through exposure on College Radio and the then-new MTV, setting the stage for her stateside breakthrough with Hounds of Love.
  • Growing the Beard: Especially in retrospect, this album is widely considered the point where Bush found her footing as an artist, featuring a more experimental sound that would directly inform her later work.
  • Retroactive Recognition: One of the engineers on the album is Nick Launay, who would go on to have a substantial career producing albums by Post-Punk and Alternative Rock acts like Public Image Ltd., INXS, David Byrne, and Nick Cave.
  • Vindicated by History: While US reception was positive from the outset, the album sharply split critics in its native UK and commercially underperformed. Decades later, it's universally considered one of Bush's best and most important albums.
