- Alternative Character Interpretation: Sherilyn Kenyon does love this trope but the winner has to be Styxx. In Archeron he's a Jerkass who stole his birthright and willingly sent him off to his eventual fate as an unwilling prostitute. In Styxx it's shown that things are never as they seem, and he was not a lot better off himself.
- Jerkass Woobie: Nick. Some want to hug him and confort him, and some want to beat the crap out of him.
- Iron Woobie: All the heroes. And some of the heroines.
- Stoic Woobie: Some of the characters take the pain without a word.
- Squick: Simi is adorable when introduced as a baby demon. When she turns out to actually be a sexually mature woman who goes out in Stripperiffic clothing, all the while still speaking like a child? Violent shove from adorable into creepy-as-all-get-out.
