- Covered Up: "Police & Thieves" had been a major Jamaican hit for Reggae singer Junior Murvin in 1976, plus an underground favorite in the UK, but the Clash version is now the most famous one.
- Harsher in Hindsight: "Career Opportunities" bemons youths being directed into dead-end jobs, mainly in the public sector, to keep them out of trouble. For the school/university leavers of post-2008 and especially post-2010 Britain, getting a full-time job as opposed to a zero-hour contract, low-paid apprenticeship, or debt-fuelled university course would be considered a sign of good fortune.
