YMMV / The Brave Locomotive

Go To

  • Awesome Art: The short effortlessly mixes traditional animation with CGI to create lively and fluid movement, giving it a very Disney-like feel. Considering it's only seven minutes, it's all the more impressive for it.
  • Awesome Music: The vocals are designed to homage The Andrews Sisters, and it nails that classic feel with a fond mix of cheery, melancholy, and tense tones. "The Baron's Proposal" is also a very catchy number to help introduce the might of Samson.
  • Moral Event Horizon: If the forestry railway overseer didn't already cross it by leaving an entire graveyard of engines who died under his "care", he absolutely crosses it when he attempts to kill Linus by shooting at him for running away to save Samson and his passengers from falling off the bridge to their deaths.
  • The Woobie: Linus and Henry McCloud are both a proud team of locomotive and engineer who wind up being subject to the inevitability of progress when Baron Von Kapital obtains the behemoth locomotive Samson to act as the new form of motive power for the Von Kapital Railway. Poor Linus is sent to be slaved away on a logging line— literally, as his new caretakers work him like a dog and threaten to shoot him if he defies their will. Henry is in no better a position either, as he's made Samson's new engineer, but is heartbroken at having to bid his old friend farewell. Even when Linus defies the logging railroad to save Samson and the others from certain doom, he's shot in the steam dome and dies from a boiler explosion when he narrowly saves everyone. To all's good fortune, everyone pitches in to rebuild him, and he and Henry are able to continue their job well into their golden years.
