YMMV / The Best Revenge

Go To

  • Crack Pairing: Severus Snape x Charity Burbage.
  • Funny Moments:
    • When Harry and Snape visit the Malfoys, Lucius shows off by taking Harry, Draco, and Snape, on a broomstick flight around the massive Malfoy estate. Among other things, he leads the way by plucking wildflowers out of a field and throwing them to his wife, who is watching. Draco copies him, and ends up accidentally throwing flowers into Narcissa's drink, and one down her shirt.
    • Snape's summary of Lucius Malfoy's motivations to McGonagall:
Snape: Lucius Malfoy has interpreted it to mean that Harry Potter is destined to be the Next Big Thing. The Dark Lord is so very out-of-date so- so- Eighties.
    • When Charity's extended family is introduced, the confusion and disdain of various characters over the name of her brother-in-law Jocko becomes a brief running gag.
    • Everything about Snape's bachelor party. First there's the fact that Lucius Malfoy is planning and hosting it. Lucius's narration makes it clear that he wants to hire raunchy entertainment for it, but can't out of concern for offending the other guests, which include Charity's male relatives, Dumbledore, and Nicholas Flamel himself. His solution is to hire a trio of veela to dance, which considering their effect on men, is not much better. Then Charity's brother-in-law Jocko makes a drunken fool of himself catcalling the veela until he is magically put to sleep by Flamel. He then promptly faceplants in his dessert, sending his fork flying through the air, where it gets stuck in Dumbledore's hat. Then Sirius Black, in dog form, crashes the party, knocks all of the food and several people flying, and gets chased out of the establishment by Lupin, who has to come up with the excuse that "Padfoot" is his ill-behaved dog. In his retreat, Sirius steals the dress of one of the veelas, which enrages all of them and makes them attack the remaining men (who also get in a fight amongst themselves due to some poorly-aimed spells). Then of course, the men have to explain all of this to their various significant others after the fact. For all that, everyone apparently had a great time.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Severus and Charity's wedding in The Time of the Basilisk, which is officiated by Dumbledore himself (Snape figured he would insist on it if he wasn't asked) and even held at Hogwarts. Lacking any male relatives, Snape's best man is Lucius Malfoy.
    • The epilogue, with Snape and Charity having a toddler daughter, and a second child on the way. Harry plays a doting adopted older brother to her.
