• Spiritual Successor: Some consider this movie to be some sort of spiritual successor to Bertolucci's 1900. They're both epic movies with an impressive runtime and split into acts, present a Generational Saga, an Ensemble Cast with larger-than-life characters and events mixed with Italian history, with Bertolucci's movie focusing on the first half of 20th century and Giordana's on the second. On the other hand, there are clear differences between the two movies and the different approach their directors choose regarding their story and their characters, both style and storytelling-wise, so much so anyone can see them as different and distinct works.
