YMMV / The Battle of Russia

  • Values Dissonance: Naturally, any American movie praising the Soviet Union (especially under Josef Stalin) would be viewed in a far more jaundiced light just a few years after this one was made, and not just because of the Cold War. The narration being thankful that the USSR was able to keep Ukraine and Crimea after World War I comes off as especially dissonant by today's standards; due to growing awareness of Ukraine's history of the time (the full scale Russian invasion since 2022 sadly helps), the Holodomor, the deportation of the Crimean Tatars, few people nowadays would be inclined to agree that it was a good thing.
