YMMV / The Affected Young Ladies

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The argument between the girls and Gorgibus about their requirements for their being courted by a man sounds an awful lot at times like a modern teen trying to convince a parent of the merits of some new fad, suggesting that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
  • Values Dissonance: Much of what happens in this play has not aged well. To a modern viewer, suitors taking revenge on young women simply for not being interested in them (whatever their motivation for rejecting them), a guardian trying to cajole his charges into marrying whomever he chooses, and servants being physically and verbally abused, can all seem a tad unsettling.
