----
* {{Anvilicious}}: All of the adults are intentionally made to come off as this.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Lavagirl losing her leg; this came out of the blue and never mentioned afterwards.
* EarWorm: "Close your eyes, shut your mouth, dream a dream to get us out, ''dream dream dream dream dream dream''..."
* FridgeBrilliance: The [[ConspicuousCG Conspicuous CG]] is one of those tropes that breaks the illusion, and therefore the viewer has no suspension of disbelief... but that's the point; you're not supposed to think Planet Drool is real. The audience is just like the rest of the adults in the film that think Max's dreams are ultimately fake. It's not until [[spoiler:Sharkboy, Lavagirl, and Mr. Electric come to Earth at the end that their existence is validated]].
** Lavagirl's representation in the real world [[spoiler:(besides Max's mother)]] is ''a '''lava''' lamp''.
** When Sharkboy and Lavagirl first arrive in Max's classroom, Sharkboy pretty blatantly attacks Linus and rips up his paper. Now, that could just be his shark instincts acting up, but why would Linus have that effect on him? [[spoiler: Well, considering the BigBad for most of the film is Linus's counterpart...]]
** [[spoiler: The reason why the protagonists can't defeat Mister Electric with the Crystal Heart is because it can only be used by the Ice Princess, whose father won't let her out of the castle. At the climax, Mr Electricidad has to let Marissa go out to defeat Mister Electric.]]
* HamAndCheese: Those who don't like the movie will love Linus/Minus' overacting.
* HilariousInHindsight: A royal figure with the abilities to freeze things with her hand? [[Disney/{{Frozen}} Why does that sound familiar?]]
** Also, this won't be the last time that a MacGuffin called [[NamesTheSame the Crystal Heart]] [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E2TheCrystalEmpirePart2 plays a major role in defeating a villain...]]
* IronWoobie: Lavagirl.
* JerkassWoobie: Linus/Minus. He only wants to destroy the dream world because his dreams are broken, which explains his negative attitude.
* MemeticMutation:
** "He ruined my dream journal!"
*** "I did not! Mr. Electric, send him to the principal's office and have him ''expelled!!''"
*** "You're in MY class, not the other way around! '''I''' know EVERYTHING! And you... ''know nothing''."
*** "At the end of class, ''both'' of you will report to the principal's office...WITH YOUR PARENTS!"
* {{Narm}}: Several instances, mostly the ridiculous faces Mr. Electric keeps making. Though it could be [[JustifiedTrope justified]] as his faces seem to be on purpose.
** NarmCharm: And yet to some, the cheesiness is part of what makes the movie entertaining.
** Also, Max's parents' horrendous acting when admitting their love for each other in the climax of the movie. Dear ''God''...
* RetroactiveRecognition: Is that '''[[Film/{{Twilight}} Jacob Black]]''' as Sharkboy?!
** Furthermore, is that '''[[Series/PrettyLittleLiars Alison DiLaurentis]]''' as Marissa?!
* SoBadItsGood: To a fair amount of viewers.
* TearJerker: Max crying over [[spoiler:Sharkboy and Lavagirl, who appear to be dead]].
* ToyShip: In-universe examples: Max with Marissa and Lavagirl with Sharkboy.
* TheWoobie: Max. He's a bully magnet and just wants to be left alone to dream in peace. Interestingly inverted at the end when his own invention makes him realize that he's only been dreaming for himself and didn't care enough about others, implying that everyone else needed his help and The Woobie was actually all of ''them.''
