• Designated Villain: Charlie. Cathy is a greedy, spiteful Gold Digger with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, but she's our viewpoint character for the story. Charlie's not exactly The Woobie with how he ultimately handles the situation, but up to that point his only serious flaw was being a Fat Slob, which is treated as an unpardonable sin because we're viewing him through Cathy's shallow and selfish perspective.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Charlie is said to be an unpleasant man, as seen by his disgusting nature and even more disgusting eating habits. Given Jeffrey Tambor was accused of abusive behavior, including sexual harassment in 2017, it brings up a whole new level of uncomfortable.
