• Moral Event Horizon: At first, Klein was just a jerk that made fun of Kirito when he was having an internal crisis. But in episode 3, he and his guild have no problem in attacking/ambushing other players and maiming/killing them in order to get their stuff because he doesn't believe that Kayaba turned SAO into a death game, even after six months. And that's not taking into account that he stole the school bus and ran Keita over with it.
  • Ducker crosses this when he leads his guild, sans Keita (whom he has run over with a school bus), into a trap and tries to leave them to be killed by Slaughternaughts and Murder Golems. He gets his comeuppance when his crystal fails to work and is killed.
• The Woobie: Dear God, Kirito. His avatar becomes bugged, accidentally destroys SAO's beta, becomes reviled as the "Beta Buster", gets shunned even when he defeats the first floor's boss even when his bug had nothing to do with it, loses the only friends he ever made because of a trap one of them led them into, finds out that the item that he wanted to use to revive them could only work for a short time... it gets so bad that by the end of the third episode, he is fully ready to commit Suicide By Nicholas the Renegade. Overlaps with Iron Woobie.
  • Asuna as well. Thrust into a game of life or death, she trains herself and then gets a group of players to help try and find the boss room. That team-up lasted only fifteen minutes because the players began to kill each other in order to "win" her. She empathizes with Kirito because she sees them both as people who tried to do good only for it to horribly backfire.
    • Sachi. Even within the Moonlight Black Cats, Sachi has little place there and is often called an idiot by Keita because of her bug: that being an idiot. Seeing her have the same condition as them but still talked down to by those same people hurts. Her bonding with Kirito was as cathartic to her as it was for him, and it makes her death even sadder as she finally found someone who would love and accept her.
• Unexpected Character: Who expected Laughing Coffin to show up at the end of Episode 3 to give Klein a proposition?
