- Fan-Preferred Cut Content: It is safe to say many fans prefer the script over the final 1993 film, largely due to it being more faithful to the games.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Several aspects of the script found their way into later Mario media by complete coincidence.
- Mario encounters a Yoshi expy named Junior who thinks of him as his mom, just like Super Mario World's "Mama Luigi."
- Koopa's proto-Kamek henchman, Beedleman, disguises himself as Hildy long before Kamek would do the same with Peach in the games.
- While not the first piece of Mario media to have Koopa attempting to marry the princess, the script was made long before Paper Mario 64 established his crush on her and Super Mario Odyssey had Bowser try to marry her. The Super Mario Bros. Movie also had Bowser seeking an artifact of power and to marry Peach, though in this case the two weren't correlated.
