YMMV / Sundy Stairway

Go To

  • Aluminium Christmas Trees: Some food items, like mozzamorra morada, which is Sunday’s favorite food, actually exist in real life.
  • Anti-Climax Boss: In Act 2, Anghela’s mother is the last major boss of the second Stairway. However, unlike the shapeshifting monster that the party fights immediately before, who has four phases with different weaknesses and healing capabilities, she only has one phase, and is relatively easy to beat. Subverted in that even though she only has one phase, most of her attacks inflict the “Afraid” state onto the party members, costing them more Power Points for every skill they use. What’s more is that as of Act 2, there are no in-game items that can counteract the Afraid state, meaning that players have to wait a few turns for their characters to return back to normal.
  • Base-Breaking Character: People who’ve played the game either love it for its creative storytelling, characters, and artwork, or hate it because of the many Lost in Translation moments in the game, which makes a lot of aspects, including the dialogue and storyline, much harder to understand.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome:
    • A common strategy is to equip party members with skills that damage all the enemies in the area in one turn. Sadly, this type of skill isn’t unlocked until a character reaches at least Level 17, and players who become too dependent on it may fail to realize that they also cost a lot more Power Points than individual attacks.
    • Another strategy used by players is to stockpile and spend money on food items that can be used during battle. While it might be advantageous to some degree, some quintessential food items, such as Gummy Dolphins, cost quite a pretty penny, and in Act 2, after the Dizziness state is unlocked, players cannot feed or use any healing attacks on any Dizzy character before giving them food that can counteract the Dizziness state.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience:
    • Early on in the development of Act 2, due to Abril’s opinions concerning food and eating, added with the multiple Vomit Indiscretion Shots in Chapter 8, plenty of fans headcanonned her as having an eating disorder, more specifically Bulimia Nervosa, which turned out to be true later on in the game.
    • Melanie is believed by many fans to suffer from dissociative amnesia. She doesn’t seem to remember anything about Marin’s death, and is genuinely shocked and terrified when she’s reminded of it.
    • Players who have advanced a significant degree in the game can use skills that resuscitate out-of-combat party members or increase their Calm Bar. The problem is that, when these skills become overused, players will soon run out of Power Points.
  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: Lots of players feel that although the storyline is riveting, unique and interesting, the gameplay is less so.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Marin, despite not having much of an appearance outside of Act 1, has become well-loved in the fandom due to his kindness towards Melanie.
    • Friday has also garnered a bit of a fanbase, mostly due to his good looks.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Summer and Spring, the central duo of Act 3, are canonically partners, according to a TikTok comment made by Yun Seven on one of their videos.
    • Some fans (most of which ship Sunday/June) also ship Winter and Abril either due to their contrasting dynamic—Winter being The Brute with her mean and cold-hearted demeanor, and Abril being the sweet-natured Combat Medic.
