YMMV / Sugar Apple Fairy Tale

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Rather than simple concern as a parent, some readers believed Glen's refusal to support Bridget joining the family business was more a clumsy excuse rather than pure parental concern. By Glen's own terms, it wouldn't matter if she knew sugar sculpting or not, because she was already set up in an arranged marriage with Eliott so that he could be the heir instead.
  • Broken Base: Like any fantasy story with slavery as a major element, this series gets debate for its handling of the system. Some find it serviceable and believe the story does a good enough job to establish that while the slavery is wrong, there is nuance to the fairies' situations and appreciate that they still criticize the Gilded Cage versions. Other fans think the story does nothing new, and falls into the same trappings of "good slave master versus bad slave master" with the ones who let fairies have access to their wings but still keep them enslaved.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Jonas smears blood on Ann's clothes and leaves her at the mercy of ravenous wolves when he steals her entry for the silver sugar competition.
    • After Kieth absently says that he felt threatened by Ann's skill, a swarm of candy confectioners attempt to burn her hands in molten sugar.
