YMMV / String Theory (NeoStarReset)

Go To

  • Adorkable: The first thing the reader learns about Prairie after she gets out of the locker was her perpetual shyness with guys. Prairie also becomes adorably alarmed whenever she hears someone swearing and comes up with her own creative alternative to insults and proverbs.
Prairie: Feeds two birds with one bread ball!
Kokichi: [Bursts out laughing] W-what the hell is that? It’s ‘kill two birds with one stone’?!
Prairie: I hate that. It’s unnecessarily violent and shouldn’t be a figure of speech. I think feeding birds is nicer than killing them.
  • Art Evolution: Tracking the progress in Reset’s art is pretty easy considering the covers they make every four chapters. They recently released a revamped version of the first cover that looks starkly improved compared to the first one they made in 2018.
  • Catharsis Factor: Some readers might find it cathartic to be placed in the shoes of a character like Prairie, someone who doesn’t play with everyone else’s pace in order to get out of the killing game.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Prairie/Rantaro and Prairie/Kokichi are considered this by some readers. Invoked in-universe with several characters like Himiko or Tsumugi since Prairie’s crush on Rantaro is obvious to anyone who has a pair of eyes, and they think Rantaro is a better influence to her compared to Kokichi.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Chapter 2.10 has Angie accusing Miu of trying to kill Prairie and take the First Blood Perk for herself, something the inventor denies vehemently. Kokichi then points out that Miu wouldn’t kill Prairie, just someone else. Turns out those accusations weren’t so far from the truth, as Kaede fell victim to Miu’s murder.
    • A reoccurring response would be the characters being in awe of Prairie’s durability when fighting against Monokuma, especially during Part 2. The consequences this brings are enabling Prairie’s reckless actions (and ignoring advice to play it safe) and bringing suspicion on to her from several people.
    • In the first trial, Prairie almost cut the already ruined stitches to her wound just because several students needed to make sure that the wound she had matched the murder weapon, only to be stopped by Shuichi.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Prairie’s actions during her stay in the Love Hotel end up as this as Kokichi retells several of the most embarrassing points to everyone in the first trial. The highlight being when Prairie realized that the second “care package” she thought Rantaro brought was actually from Kokichi, much to her horror. His actions during 3.14 becomes even more entertaining upon rereading.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Though the fic focuses on Prairie’s relationship with several characters in particular, but that hasn’t stopped other readers from shipping Prairie with other people she has less interactions with.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: As with the Danganronpa ships with Canon characters, the ships here are also portmanteau of the characters’ last names i.e. Ouble is Kokichi/Prairie, Amable is Rantaro/Prairie, Tenble is Tenko/Prairie, etc.
