  • Some stories feature adult men lusting after teenagers, sometimes as young as 13, which was not abnormal at the time but, needless to say, is frowned upon today.
  • Some stories come across as homophobic by today's standards. "Cut Sleeve" is a controversial story that has been interpreted as both pro and anti-gay, but "Xia Nü" more blatantly portrays the killing of a gay fox spirit as a good thing.
