YMMV / Stitch & the Samurai

  • Broken Base: Fans are divided on whether this manga is a fun, fresh take on the beloved alien, or if it's too weird and bizarre even by the franchise's standards to have been worth making.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Not that this is really canon to begin with, but some fans don't accept the idea of Stitch having traveled to Earth in its past to have befriended a warlord. A notable exception to this comes from the Disney Tsum Tsum side story, where Leroy is finally called Experiment 629 in an official Disney work after fans have been doing so for years.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: The final chapter ends the manga in a very similar manner to the original film: the Grand Councilwoman arrives to arrest Stitch herself, the human protagonist convinces her to let him stay, she flies off leaving Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley on Earth, and the aliens get to enjoy a happy life with their human caretakers who they've grown close to. Some fans felt that it was too safe an ending, simply retelling the original movie's ending without adding anything interesting or unique to the story.
  • Quirky Work: This is an officially licensed Disney manga where a popular alien character ends up in Feudal Japan and befriends a warlord.
