• Alternative Character Interpretation: Nothing can make Mr. Frowny cheer up, and any attempt to do so only make him sadder. Is this just a gag, or could he have some form of depression?
• Ho Yay: Both of Mr. Smiley's and Mr. Frowney's dialogue sounds less like them talking about their failed comedy act but more like a failed romantic relationship between them. It helps that one of the storyboard artists eventually outed Mr. Smiley.
  Mr. Frowney: Did you just come here to laugh at me?
  Mr. Smiley: No! I'm here to tell you that- I wanted it to work, alright? But it wasn't making you happy.
  Mr. Frowney: I just wanted you to take it seriously.
  Mr. Smiley: And I just wanted you to have fun.
  Mr. Frowney: Oh, I guess it was never going to work. [pause] But I really thought we had something.
• The Woobie: Poor Mr. Frowny simply can't be cheered up.
