YMMV / Steven Universe: Future S1E17 "Homeworld Bound"

• Author's Saving Throw: The redemption of the Diamonds, particularly White Diamond was by far the most contentious plot point in the series, especially since it was unclear for a while what they were actually doing to redeem themselves and Steven forgiving everyone who's ever harmed him seems soft. This episode addresses some of those complaints, by demonstrating that the Diamonds have abdicated much of their power and are making a continuous effort to undo the damage they've done, as well as showing Steven hasn't fully forgiven the Diamonds, and likely never will.
• Alternative Character Interpretation: Did Steven genuinely want to kill White Diamond due to her being the source of every problem he was forced to fix as well as his own trauma? Or were his actions directed at Pink Steven for how much pain he's caused him and his loved ones? Or is the latter simply symbolic? Steven seems to think that it's the former, leading him to be very bothered about it.
• Genius Bonus: Blue Diamond's new power is creating clouds that make people blissful and at ease, and although they could be interpreted as being like antidepressants, fans also jokingly compare it to as like smoking pot. Coincidentally, there's actually a marijuana strain called "Blue Diamond".
• I Knew It!:
  • A certain camp of fans theorized that White looking pink and freaked out was because Steven was somehow mind-controlling her. This episode proves that theory to be correct when it's showcased that White's new power allows other Gems to take over her body instead.
  • One fan on Twitter expressed interest in seeing Spinel sing a reprise of "Change" to Steven to help him with his issues. This exact thing happens in this episode, though it's played more for humor and doesn't really help Steven's mental state.
• Jerkass Woobie: Jasper once again. After finally finding her purpose by pledging her loyalty to Steven, the boy flat out dismisses her and tells her to find something better to do with her life. The look on her face shows how hard she took this.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • Putting the song "All Star" over Jasper slamming the bathroom door open, referencing the near-identical opening scene of Shrek.
  • Blue's happy clouds being compared to weed.
  • White changing colors while Caramelldansen plays in the background.
