• Ensemble Dark Horse: Dr. Brewer(and by extension his clone) has definitely been getting more recognition recently, thanks to a combination of mad science, Body Horror, and oddly homoerotic subtext. He also played a major role in a recent video game that shows a dark hypothetical outcome of his experiments.
• Realism-Induced Horror: Dr. Brewer's rage and outbursts towards his children, making their children think that their father has become a different man, and essentially has them isolated from the outside world. It essentially screams of abusive parents. Or how a brain injury, stroke, addiction, or other ailments can change a person's personality—often for the worse, often to where loved ones feel like the person had been replaced by a stranger.
• Values Dissonance: Dr. Brewer calls Margaret "Fatso" as an Affectionate Nickname, even though she hates it and is skinny as a rail. These days, he'd be called out for inadvertent fat-shaming as well as turning their basement into a science lab and making sentient plant clones. Which is probably why the TV series instead calls her the more common Princess.
