YMMV / Star Trek Deep Space Nine S 02 E 21 The Maquis

• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: While the Cardassians are hardly innocent, the Maquis don't come off very well overall. Even setting aside their origin in "Preemptive Strike" (i.e. them choosing to stay under the Cardassian government and renounce Federation citizenship for the sake of their world and homes rather than their lives and safety), in both episodes of the two-parter we see plenty of terrorist actions the Maquis take while everything the Cardassians do is offscreen, and most of it doesn't justify war or murder. It somehow manages to come across both as more petty and more harsh than the writers probably intended, even if they were trying to make a more complicated Black-and-Gray Morality situation.
