  • Angst? What Angst?: The village takes the whole "We're just holograms" thing in pretty good stride. In "The Big Goodbye," a holodeck character has an existential crisis when he discovers that he's a hologram.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Sisko has the best possible reaction to Jake not wanting to join Starfleet.
Sisko: It's your life, Jake. You have to choose your own way. There is only one thing I want from you. Find something you love, then do it the best you can.
      Jake: I'll try.
Sisko: Good. Then you'll make the old man proud.
    • After deflecting requests for it all episode, Odo does a transformation trick as a parting gift to the young girl he's befriended.
    • Odo's genuine smile during the following conversation.
Taya: Your face isn't so scary. Once you get used to it.
      Odo: ... Thank you, Taya.
    • Odo's passionate speech to Rurigan that Taya and the other villagers are real, even if they don't technically fit the definition of life as they conventionally know it, convincing him to agree with turning them back on and choosing to stay with them.
    • Rurigan admitting that even though his daughter and granddaughter are holograms, he loves them as much as if they were flesh and blood.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Star Trek: Voyager's crew spends seven years, off and on, dealing with the question of whether or not holograms should be considered people via the Doctor. Odo answers the question in about two sentences by pointing out that Rurigan cares when his holographic granddaughter cries. The end.
  • Narm: Bareil’s idea of foreplay is to talk about his colleague’s gambling debts.
