• Ho Yay: "Naughty Nautical Neighbors" is filled to the brim with it.
  • SpongeBob and Patrick are a little too entranced at the prospect of being pals with Squidward. Squid has to tell a feelsy Patrick that they're "just friends". Later, he finds the starfish on his bathtub, who greets him by saying "Hey buddy, I warmed it up for ya." SpongeBob then appears in the window, and voices his jealousy in a manner that is suspiciously similar to how a partner would react upon discovering he has been cheated on.
    SpongeBob: Ohoho, so this is what I find, huh!? My best friend, and my ex-best friend, and...rubber bath toys!
  • While hiding from the two outside, Squidward desperately has to think of a way to get SpongeBob and Patrick "back together", like he's referring to a bickering couple.
  • The very end has SpongeBob mutter to Patrick that Squidward must be jealous of their friendship, which Pat calls pathetic. Now why does that sound familiar?
• Memetic Mutation:
  • The shot of Patrick sleeping in response to Squidward's playing is often used as a reaction image, usually to a bad joke or something boring. Sometimes SpongeBob is added to the shot, edited to make it look like he's giving Patrick head.
  • Remixes of SpongeBob's terrible bass solo into popular songs under the name "It took SpongeBob [Number Of Years] to master this."
  • From "Boating School" there's the dialogue exchange between SpongeBob and Jimmy where the latter just got his license but tells the former he doubts he'll get his. It is often used with edited dialogue to make fun of ambitious but unlikely events and things in development hell.
    Jimmy: Hey I just got my [X]!^note Original dialogue is "license."
    SpongeBob: Hey I'm getting mine next!
    Jimmy: Hey I doubt it!
• Nightmare Fuel: Squidward choking on his fork, particularly the close up of him attempting to swallow.
