YMMV / Space Brothers

  • Awesome Music:
    • The orchestral background music of the series as a whole can qualify as this.
    • Also, "Feel so Moon" by Unicorn and "Eureka", sung by Sukima Switch. It's the one that mostly people go and remember because of the phrase and the opening.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Apo. Even if you know that the story is about (mostly) the Nanba brothers, and that Apo is sort of a mascot for the series as well, this cute pug is the most favorite character of the series, having more merchandise dedicated to him than the main characters.
  • Incest Yay Shipping: Mutta/Hibito is one of the most popular (if not the most popular) ships in the fandom.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Mutta,as you can see here.
  • Narm: It's a minor moment, but Kenji's "You can always start over" line (said to his daughter after she accidentally knocks over a block tower she had been constructing during a tantrum after learning that her father wasn't going to the Moon like he had told her he was) takes on a hilarious and probably completely unintended meaning when the camera immediately cuts to a shot with his obviously several-months-pregnant wife watching from the sidelines.
  • Iron Woobie: After his near-death experience on the Moon, Hibito develops a severe case of PTSD which triggers panic attacks whenever he tries to put on a spacesuit. He gets better, but that's not enough for NASA, so does he gives up going to space? NOPE, he goes to Russia to become a cosmonaut. He really is the strongest astronaut/cosmonaut.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Hibito and Damian’s crash on the moon. Everything from Damian telling Hibito about his critical condition to Hibito nearly asphyxiating in his suit are heartbreaking to watch.
    • Pico and Vince’s backstory. They had a friend they built rockets with and were receiving pressure from their families and school to pursue a career as mining engineers instead of becoming astronauts. Pico and Vince eventually relented, which upset their friend enough to continue his dream alone. On the day day of a career fair, their friend died in a car accident, leaving Pico and Vince devastated and regretting their decision.
  • Wheelchair Woobie: Poor Aunt Sharon. She develops ALS late in the series and it rapidly becomes worse after she receives her diagnosis. This impacts her ability to work on her lunar telescope as she becomes unable to properly use her hands.
