• Aluminum Christmas Trees: In the style of Older Than They Think. While calling the surgeries "species-change operations" is a relatively new feature, people who've wanted surgeries to change themselves into animals have been around since long before this episode first aired. The wealthy Jocelyn Wildenstein, for one, underwent a number of surgeries in an effort to make herself into a Real Life Cat Girl.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Ms. Garrison's disturbing excitement at getting an abortion now brings up uncomfortable memories of Lena Dunham's controversial remark that she wishes she had an abortion despite never having been pregnant.
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Kyle's decision to get "negroplasty" to become black got even funnier after the Rachel Dolezal scandal.
  • And Gerald's decision to become a dolphin is even funnier with Nano, the Norwegian woman who claims to be a cat in a woman's body, as well as otherkin in general.
• Misaimed Fandom: Years after this episode aired, many conservative commentators seized on Ms. Garrison's comment that she wasn't really a woman because she couldn't give birth as proof of their claims that transwomen aren't "true" women for that very reason. The commentators in question evidently didn't see Season 12's "Eek, a Penis!", where Garrison makes that claim again, only for other characters to point out that using that logic, women who can't give birth due to birth defects or hysterectomies also wouldn't qualify as women.
• Nightmare Fuel: Mr. Garrison’s operation is this, mainly because it uses live-action footage of a real-life sex change operation. It's also shown that Garrison is awake throughout the whole procedure.
• Squick: Mr. Garrison's sex change operation in the beginning. Because it uses real-life footage of an actual sex change operation, it's not for the faint of heart.
