YMMV / South Park S 4 E 12 Trapper Keeper

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Trapper Keepers are real, they just aren't as remotely high-tech as the ones featured.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Garrison is portrayed as in the right when he calls out Rosie O'Donnell for being biased and trying to swing the results of an election. During the fallout over the 2020 election it was Donald Trump, who notably dislikes Rosie O'Donnell and who Garrison became an Expy of, who attempted to do this by making false claims of election fraud.
    • Cartman informs a man going by the name of "Bill Cosby" that he's not allowed to have male friends over thirty anymore - referring to the events of "Cartman Joins NAMBLA", where he was groomed and almost raped by a pedophile gang (along with the other kids in South Park). Come 2014, when the real-life Bill Cosby would find himself in one of the biggest sex scandals in Hollywood, before ultimately being convicted of sexual assault in 2018.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • In this episode, Garrison is the voice of reason who calls Rosie O'Donnell out on only caring about people who vote on her side. Come season 19, Garrison becomes an Expy of Donald Trump who is just as open to mockery as Rosie O'Donnell was in this episode. It's even funnier since Trump and O'Donnell are Sitcom Arch-Nemeses.
    • Ike being a genius is seen as an Informed Attribute at first since most of his speech at the time was gibberish with his most notable sentence being "I pooped my pants!" But then as the show progressed, he winds up being very clever to the point where he manages to outsmart much of the town with his speech evolved to match.
    • Mr. Garrison called Filmore's refusal to concede to losing the election the most childish thing he's ever heard. As mentioned above, he eventually becomes an Expy of Donald Trump, though he's a Graceful Loser after losing the 2020 election, possibly remembering the scandal that Filmore caused when bringing his aunt to the table.
  • Values Resonance: The election subplot remains very relevant due to America's two-party system which has become increasingly partisan in recent years. The fact that this is about a kindergarten class's election for class president is also depressingly accurate of how some voters behave.
