YMMV / SoulWorker

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • The login screen theme (also known as the main theme of SoulWorker) is widely beloved by most, if not all of the fans for its calm yet uplifting melody. Even the music studio that created the track refers to it as the "Most Beautiful Game Music"!
    • Ephnel's theme introduces a bouncy techno beat that showcases the girl's spunky and confident side, unafraid to pursue what she wants.
    • The boss theme for the third season of Corrupted Records is a majestic track that features a sorrowful choir accompanied by a One-Woman Wail, a clear indicator that things are going down.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Nabi Lee. For some players, she was the final straw on the camel's back for the game's lack of playable male characters and back-to-back releases of female fanservice content. Others welcomed the character because of her fanservice-y design, and because they were looking forward to playing another gun-user.
  • Broken Base:
    • Gameforge's now-dead North American/European server had fans up in arms over their questionable development choices. One side of the fans despised the company for its lack of game updates, poor translation and localization, minimal communication with the fanbase, and introduction of the server-exclusive Grutin Wheel, which required players to gamble in-game money to spin a wheel for costume parts, all while those very same costumes could be bought directly on the other servers. Other fans defended Gameforge for the server's flaws, arguing that the game was bound to have issues here and there due to the company's large responsibility of localizing the game in English and European languages.
    • The potential downsides of Lion Games's new international server sparked plenty of controversy amongst the fans. Many believed that the game would be bad, if not worse than Gameforge's server due to its lack of bankshare, as well as the fact that the English server was an add-on to the already-existing Taiwanese game client, much to their dismay. The other side is neutral to these changes, simply wishing to play on an official English server regardless of the potential downsides.
  • Memetic Mutation: Stella having wolf spirits lead to some Korean image board users interpreting her as a "puppy", resulting in the creation of a comical Super-Deformed "canine" form with a crudely-drawn Stella head. The meme subsequently underwent Adaptation Displacement when it was adopted by the Goddess of Victory: NIKKE community and warped into the vastly more popular "Doro" meme.
  • Moe: Stella is regarded by fans as the cutest playable character by far, thanks to her adorable and excitable personality, as well as her darling looks.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The breaking sound that plays when you destroy a boss's super armor is plain satisfying, indicating that it's time to dish out as much damage as you can before its armor regenerates.
  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: The game's story is often criticized for its long (and sometimes tedious) narrative, causing many players to ignore the story in favor of the simple but fun gameplay.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The model renewal update drew the ire of many fans for how the characters were redesigned. Some criticized the redesigns for not resembling the characters well, while others claimed that Haru and Lily's designs were ultimately reduced to fanservice, rather than true reflections of their personality and character.
  • The Woobie: Many of the characters have traumatic pasts prior to/as a direct result of the Great Void.
    • Haru grew up with her mother after her father died in an accident, causing her to work and study for years to become a doctor in order to support her mother and their household. When she finally gets accepted into a medical school, the Great Void rips through their home and kills her mother right when she was about to break the good news to her. It's no wonder Haru's so intent on revenge against the Void.
    • Lily had to watch her only brother get mutilated and slaughtered by a SoulDreg, already dead by the time she was able to tear the monster away. Traumatized and wallowing in her grief, she let the Despair Event Horizon consume her as she undergoes a mental breakdown, losing all of her will to live.
    • Stella lived most of her life isolated and scorned by everyone else, including her own parents. The sorrow was too much for her to bear, causing her to willingly walk into the Great Void thinking that everyone would be better off if she were gone. When she finally does make a friend (Catherine), it's Kant who kills her friend off and crushes Stella in a Curb-Stomp Battle, all while calling her a monster who will never get to experience happiness.
