• Aluminum Christmas Trees: Quite a few people believed that the movie as a whole was just a Film Within a Film created by The Boondocks and were shocked that it was actually a real world film.
• Overshadowed by Controversy: Odds are if you ever hear this movie referenced—and that is not often—it's because at the time it was released, it was one of the most hated comedy films of all-time. It has an 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with critics and just barely got a 51% rating from audiences. It's been taken to task for plenty of things, but mostly just being harmful to the black community given how much it leans into unpleasant and outright unfunny stereotypical humor. It was also bad for business, posting a $14 million dollar box office against a $16 million dollar budget. Getting only $14 million worldwide is a failure accomplishment in itself during a time when plenty of other comedies raked in the dough. (For further context, Meet the Fockers did $144 million that same year, which let it crack the Top 20 domestic grossing films from 2004.)
