YMMV / Smuggling in Suburbia

Go To

  • Genius Bonus: After spending a night on the town in New York with Tucker, Joanie says she feels like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. She's more right than she knows: a subplot in Breakfast is that Holly Golightly is unknowingly working as a smuggler for a mob boss, thinking she's transporting completely innocent goods, much like Joanie.
  • Narm Charm: The storyline is, shall we say, very contrived and implausible, but between the usual solid direction of Lifetime stalwart Doug Campbell and some choice bits of dialogue, this manages to be entertaining.
Danny (warning Tucker about getting involved with Joanie): Don't get too cozy with the mules.
Annabel: Sharnae's dad is in prison and her mom's a tweaker. They probably don't even know she's gone.
Georgia: I'm not gonna sit here and watch you ruin your life because you think you're in love with some... diamond smuggler!
    • This exchange takes the cake.
Tucker: Mrs. Whittaker, you're right. I'm too old for your daughter and I should not be dating her.
      Joanie: Oh, yes you should!
  • Special Effects Failure: The selfies the girls take in different cities very obviously use Chroma Key backgrounds.
  • Strangled by the Red String: With very little development to justify it, Joanie and Tucker's relationship persists to the point where the two are talking about getting married in the future and Joanie is willing to potentially derail the investigation into Danny's business to protect him.
