YMMV / Sleater-Kinney

Go To

  • Broken Base: The Center Won't Hold was a catalyst for a seismic one of these in the Sleater-Kinney fandom. First there was the album itself, which some derided as overly commercial while others praised the new direction and personal lyrics. Then there was the surrounding controversy over Janet Weiss's departure, which pretty much no one was happy about, but debates raged as to whether she was pushed out and whether producer St. Vincent had been a positive or negative influence on the remaining band members, with some fans going so far as to paint her as a Yoko Oh No.
  • I Am Not Shazam: No one in the band is named Sleater or Kinney.
  • The Scrappy: Carrie and Corin became this to a sect of the fandom following the lukewarm reception to The Center Won't Hold and their growing I Am the Band attitude minimizing Janet to the point of her leaving.
  • Tearjerker:
    • "Jumpers", which was inspired by numerous recorded suicides at the Golden Gates bridges.
    • "One More Hour", the band's signature Break Up Song, especially when you know the story behind it. Imagine being in a band with your ex-girlfriend and having to sing about your break-up.
