YMMV / Sins Rising

  • Character Rerailment:
    • After several years of either downplaying their dynamic, giving Norman side stories that keep him away from Peter, or events like Spiderverse and Superior Spider-Man wrapping Peter up in more fantastic situations, this arc finally has Spider-Man and Green Goblin interact face-to-face. While they're forced to work together to stop a greater threat, the conflict of the story almost entirely revolves around the two bringing up their complicated relationship of mutual hatred with glimpses of understanding, showcasing what drives Peter to do the right thing.
    • Norman's characterization as a whole ended up being praised for a nice return to form after the Dan Slott-era portrayed Norman as more of a chaotic force rather than the personal arch-nemesis he was often to Peter.
  • Older Than They Think: The story of a "Sin-Eater" being granted supernatural powers by a demonic villain who was taking advantage of the Sin-Eater's obsession with cleansing sin was first used in issue #80 of Ghost Rider. In fact, that Sin-Eater predates the one best known in Spider-Man by two years.
  • Unexpected Character: While the Juggernaut does have some history with Spider-Man, no could probably have guessed that he was the repeatedly teased mystery character who was locked away in the Ravencroft vault.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: Much more subtle than Spencer's work on Captain America, but issue 47 in particular has some dialogue and story elements that can be interpreted as commentary on modern American society and politics:
    • Jameson and Nora Winters have a discussion about whether they should be giving the Sin-Eater a platform and briefly discuss the degree to which the media decides who is and isn't heard.
    • Carlie Cooper comments that she would like to believe that people can change their mind in the face of proof, and can accept that they have previously been misled by some charismatic force and be better than they are now, only to note that this is not always the case can easily be interpreted as Spencer venting on the support Donald Trump still maintains in the face of the 2020 elections despite America's heavily divided social climate.
