- Accidental Aesop: Everyone believed that the urban renewal project was 100% safe, only for it to be revealed that Bob Bixby paid them off to say that, which gives the message, "Always be objective; even the experts can be lying to you."
- Informed Wrongness: Nolan's expose on Dr. Voss was just poking the bear, but his expose on Bob Bixby was 100% justified as his previous scandal does affect his credibility on his urban renewal project.
- Jerkass Woobie: Max did join forces with Bubba, but it's clear he's genuinely remorseful and did it out of self-preservation.
- Strawman Has a Point: Dr. Voss had a right to shut down the site on school premises as it singled out a student and degraded him even if he deserved it.
