- Nightmare Fuel: Seeing everything that's familiar to you be turned to nothing but sand as soon as you touch it and realizing that all of this was only a temporary reprieve from your imminent death that is rapidly crumbling at your mere touch? And that you have no choice but to go along with this if you want to finish the game? Sweet dreams!
- Paranoia Fuel: The comfortable and familiar place you're in right now could very well be nothing but a hallucination just waiting to crumble at your slightest touch. In fact, why don't you try and touch that thing just to the right of you right now and see what happens?
- Vindicated by History: Although this game managed to place 10th out of 52 in the 2000 Interactive Fiction Competition, and won an XYZZY award for Best Setting, it didn't really gain the huge ground it has obtained until later. Some have cited this as an issue of Popular Author Worship in the IF Community-Andrew Plotkin published the game under a pseudonym at first, and, ironically, a game parodying Andrew Plotkin called Being Andrew Plotkin won the Best Game award that year.
