* MagnificentBastard: [[AbusiveAdvertising Segata Sanshiro]] himself is a martial artist determined to promote the UsefulNotes/SegaSaturn at all costs. To this end, Segata will [[DisproportionateRetribution beat up anyone he finds not playing a Sega Saturn]] and leave one behind. Later on, he will forego these methods and promote the Sega Saturn through other means, such as disguising himself as Santa Claus to scare kids into playing, battling a martial artist with a judo throw that makes the martial artist explode twice, or playing sports using his superhuman feats. When a missile is launched against the Sega headquarters, Segata throws himself at it and redirects it into space, exploding with it and [[HeroicSacrifice seemingly sacrificing his life]]. Years later, he is revealed to have faked his death in order to [[SecretTestOfCharacter test his son]] Sega Shiro as a worthy successor of his legacy, disguising himself as the evil Hatan Shiro and battling him in a duel. After being defeated and his facade being dropped, Segata declares Sega Shiro the new defender of Sega and orders his son to throw him to Saturn where Segata explodes. While this is revealed to have been [[AllJustADream a dream]] by Sega Shiro, he would still find a black belt that reads "[[OrWasItADream I leave Sega in your hands]]".

That's not what hindsight is.

** In one episode of WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic, Spike asks if it really is possible for someone to explode twice. Apparently Hasbro was unaware that yes, a person can explode twice... [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V65dtKOk2Y in Segata Sanshiro's bare hands]].

Not this trope

* EsotericHappyEnding: Some of his ads involve him assaulting innocent people for not playing a Sega Saturn (including children in some cases).

Weird Al Effect -> Parody Displacement; is this a parody?

* WeirdAlEffect: As the main page points out, his name and general persona were inspired by ''Sanshiro Sugata''. Though a fairly successful and well-known film in its home country, chances are if you're a foreigner, you know it through two ways: either you're an Creator/AkiraKurosawa buff, or you heard about it through its connections to Segata Sanshiro.

* TearJerker:
** Segata's last commercial, where he sacrifices himself to save the Dreamcast. What makes it even more tragic is that his sacrifice ends in vain, considering that the Dreamcast, while beloved, was the final nail in the coffin for Sega consoles. More saddening still is Sega's continued economic collapse, with the company eventually downsizing and shifting focus almost entirely on digital and mobile games.
** The Japanese woman in the office crying out Segata Sanshiro's name--her delivery sounds just so pained.
** What makes it ''less'' tragic is that [[spoiler:he survives, as seen in ''Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed'', though he appears to be trapped on top of that rocket. He also gets to kick more ass in ''VideoGame/ProjectXZone 2''.]]
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7Et9NhHPpE This farewell]] from Hiroshi Fujioka is filmed in memoriam to Segata Sanshiro as he reflects on the role, ending with him telling all the viewers to find a magnificent future.
** [[https://twitter.com/SEGA_OFFICIAL/status/1253141542711091205 Segata's sacrifice from his son's perspective.]] Nothing more heartbreaking than your father and mentor leaving to die for what he believes in. Seeing his gi fall from the sky ''really'' tugs at the heartstrings.

** In an Website/AlternateHistoryDotCom thread called ''Literature/PlayerTwoStart'', Sega addressed this when they brought Segata to the US; instead of beating people up for not playing the Saturn, he'd instead assault the people who want you to ''stop'' playing the Saturn, such as teachers and Nintendo salsemen.
