YMMV / Sea Dogs

  • Fan Nickname: Pirates of the Caribbean is often referred to by fans as its original intended title Sea Dogs II, to differentiate it from the other video games based on Pirates of the Caribbean. The fact that it was an In Name Only licensee that wasn't even meant to be a licensee to begin with certainly supports this idea.
  • Memetic Mutation: The Spanish dub of Caribbean Tales became infamous for being one of the worst video game dubs ever made to Spanish. In particular, Beatrice's line "¿Me estás nombrando virreina?" ("Are you appointing me viceroy?") is now expected to pop up sooner or later in any discussion that involves bad dubs in video games.
  • Oddball in the Series: Pirates of the Caribbean for the Disney franchise of the same name, since it doesn't have much of anything to do with the rest of the franchise, and none of the characters introduced in that game would ever reappear in any further Disney-produced material. Even for the Sea Dogs franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean still stands out for being the only game in the series to double as a licensed title for another franchise.
  • Sequel Displacement: Due to the different English language titles, most people aren't aware that Pirates of the Caribbean, Caribbean Tales, and City of Abandoned Ships are all meant to be sequels to Sea Dogs and some even think To Each His Own is the only sequel. Averted when booth the Age of Pirates games got a Western steam release and renamed Sea Dogs as well.
